On-line disk backup: On-line disk backup is hosted on Server Arts' separate
servers designed specifically for this purpose. Disk space on
these servers is made available to the customers' dedicated Windows or Linux
server(s) via a high-speed
internal switched network in the form of a network share accessible via the file system,
web browser or backup software, including Microsoft
Windows Backup. The servers hosting this system are high capacity, multi-processor
systems equipped with multiple hardware-based RAID 10 disk arrays to ensure
reliability and redundancy. Linux server integration has been tested and
verified. |

- Tape-based backup solutions are impractical
and prone to problems in a hosted server environment due to the fact that the hosting company cannot know the status
of your backup jobs when rotating tapes. Instead of taxing our customers
with an expensive centrally managed backup system (therefore forcing customers to
give Server Arts administrative access to their servers in order to pull
the data) we designed an on-line, disk-based backup system. A certain amount of disk space on
Server Arts' separate
servers, designed specifically to act as on-line backup systems,
is made available to our customers in the form of a Windows network share
(accessible from both Windows and Linux servers).
- Should a customer require
additional backup space, upgrades are very fast - just a
phone call away. Additional capacity can be added quickly and
without any disruption.
Most importantly, data restores can be performed in real-time without
the latency involved in mounting and cataloguing a slow tape. Please note
that, for security reasons, our on-line backup servers are only accessible
via the customers' dedicated servers and not
over the Internet. |
